Each chewable tablet contains:

Carprofen IP               50mg
Excipients                   q.s.

Description / Action: 

CARtail tablets contains carprofen. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used for pain management in dogs. Clinical field trials and published studies in unanesthetized dogs and have demonstrated that it is well tolerated after oral administration.

Class: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)

Indication / Uses:

It is indicated for the

– Relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis condition
– Control of postoperative pain (soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries)

Dosage and administration:

4.4 mg/kg body weight once a day or

one 50 mg tablet for 12 kg body weight once a day
on 100 mg tablet for 23 kg body weight once a day
or as directed by the veterinarian.

To be administered with food.

Over-dosage / Contraindications /Warnings:

Do not use in case of any known hypersensitivity to any of the excipients or active substance.
Use with caution in canines with cardiac, hepatic, or renal disorders.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Before beginning NSAID therapy, all dogs should go through a complete history and physical examination. Prior to and frequently throughout the administration of any NSAIDS, appropriate laboratory tests to establish baseline haematological and serum biochemical data should be taken into consideration. Owners should be instructed to keep an eye out for symptoms of possible drug toxicity.

Consult a physician in cases of accidental ingestion by humans. For oral use in dogs only. Do not use in cats.

Alternative analgesia should be taken into consideration if further pain medication is necessary after taking the recommended daily dose of carprofen. Another NSAID should not be used, according to experts.

Carprofen has not been proven to be safe for use in animals less than 6 weeks old, pregnant dogs, dogs kept for breeding, or lactating female dogs.

Side effects / Adverse Reactions:

There have been reports of typical NSAIDS side effects such vomiting, soft feces/diarrhea, faecal occult blood, loss of appetite, and lethargic behaviour. There have been no documented side effects that are clinically significant. Use of the product should be stopped if an adverse response/ reaction develops, and take advice of a veterinarian.

Pharmaceutical precautions / Instructions: 

Store protected from light & moisture, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.

Safety: Age / Pregnancy/ Withdrawal:

Carprofen’s safety in pregnant or nursing animals has not been proven. Do not use in pregnant or lactating female dogs.

Cartail is not advised for usage in dogs with bleeding disorders like Von Willebrand’s disease, because safety has not been proven in dogs with these bleeding disorders.

Washout period: 

While changing from one NSAID to another or from corticosteroid usage to NSAID use, be aware of the proper washout intervals.
