FELINTRA oral solution for cats contains itraconazole which has broad spectrum of activity against yeast and fungus. It has enhanced tissue penetration, residual effect and higher safety margin.

It is US FDA approved in dermatophytosis caused by Microsporum canis in cats. Itraconazole has superior antifungal potency & fungicidal activity. Oral solution is more bioavailable and has lesser Gl side effects.

How does Itraconazole work?

Itraconazole is delivered to the target tissues like skin, hair and and sebaceous glands, where it accumulates and remains for a much longer period than the duration of treatment. This enables effective short and safe periods of pulse treatment and diminishes the chance of a relapse.

Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

Itraconazole may cause hypokalemia or increases in liver function tests in a small percentage of patients. Use itraconazole in patients with hepatic impairment only when the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Adverse effects appear to be dose related. Gl effects (anorexia, weight loss, vomiting), hepatotoxicity (increased ALT, jaundice) and depression have been noted. With long-term therapy, routine liver function tests are recommended (monthly ALT).

What makes FELINTRA unique?

Itraconazole in FELINTRA is more readily available in target tissues because of the addition of cyclodextrin or cyclic carbohydrate in the formulation.

1. Cyclodextrin is hydrophilic outside and is hydrophobic inside
2. A complex is formed by trapping Itraconazole inside the core of Cyclodextrin molecule.
3. Itraconazolemolecule is highly lipophilic and Keratophilic + Cyclodextrin is added to improve water solubility & bioavailability of Itraconazole
4. Itraconazole has very poor water solubility. The formation of complex with cyclodextrin helps in increased dissolution and bioavailability of Itraconazole.
