Persistent hyperphosphatemia along with calcitriol deficiency leads to secondary hyperparathyroidism. Calcitriol deficiency leads to negative feedback on the parathyroid gland and persistent hyperphosphatemia leads to hypocalcemia; both result in continuous stimulation of the parathyroid gland and secondary hyperparathyroidism. Secondary hyperparathyroidism leads to metabolic bone diseases, kidney disease, cardiac problems, uremic anemia, reduced carbohydrate metabolism, and immunological response.

Route: Oral administration only, Total dose of phosclear must be divided among feedings. Can be mixed/given with the food
