Description / Action:

Ipakitine or Epakitin is a chitosan, calcium carbonate, lactose and hydrolyzed soy protein based Intestinal Phosphate Binder for dogs and cats. Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide ingredient extracted from the crab and shrimp shells. It naturally binds dietary phosphorus and limits the intestinal absorption of phosphorus. Chitosan also binds uremic toxins. Lactose and hydrolyzed soy provide protein and carbohydrates. It also reduces gut pH and accelerates phosphorus binding. Calcium carbonate binds with extra phosphorus and excretes through faeces. Managing phosphate levels has evidenced to enhance renal function.
