Cobactan injection contains Cefquinome Sulphate which is a veterinary, parenteral, fourth-generation Cephalosporin. It exhibits the broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Cefquinome Sulphate    29.64 mg
Eq. to Cefquinome         25 mg
Excipients           q.s.

Description / Action: 

Cobactan injection contains Cefquinome Sulphate which is a veterinary, parenteral, fourth-generation Cephalosporin. It exhibits the broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Target Species: Cattle and Pigs

Indication / Usage:

It is indicated for the treatment of susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections

Cattle:

    • Acute E. coli mastitis with signs of systemic involvement
    • Respiratory tract infections caused by Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia haemolytica.
    • Digital dermatitis, infectious bulbar necrosis and interdigital necrobacillosis (foul in the foot)
    • Calf-E. coli septicaemia.

Pigs:

    • For the treatment of bacterial infections of the lungs and respiratory tract caused by Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus parasuis, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Streptococcus suis
    • Mastitis-Metritis-Agalactia syndrome (MMA) with involvement of E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp.
    • And other Cefquinome sensitive organisms.

Piglets:

    • Reduction of mortality in cases of meningitis caused by Streptococcus suis.
    • For the treatment of Arthritis caused by Streptococcus spp., E. coli and other Cefquinome-sensitive organisms.
    • Epidermitis (mild or moderate lesions) caused by Staphylococcus hyicus.


Dosage/ Administration / Feeding Directions:

Cattle: 1 mg cefquinome/kg (2 ml/50 kg body wt.) – 3 to 5 consecutive days daily

    • Respiratory tract infections caused by Pasteurella multocidaand Mannheimia haemolytica,
    • Digital dermatitis,
    • Infectious bulbar necrosis
    • Interdigital necrobacillosis (foul in foot),
    • Acute  colimastitis with signs of systemic involvement (daily for 2 consecutive days)

Calf: 2 mg cefquinome/ kg (4 ml/50 kg body wt.) – 3 to 5 consecutive days daily

    • colisepticaemia

Pigs: 2 mg Cefquinome/kg bodyweight (equivalent to 2 ml per 25 kg bw)

    • Respiratory disease – Daily for 3 consecutive days
    • MMA – Daily for 2 consecutive days

Piglets: 2 mg Cefquinome/kg bodyweight (equivalent to 2 ml per 25 kg bw)

    • Meningitis – Once daily for 5 consecutive days
    • Arthritis – Once daily for 5 consecutive days
    • Epidermitis – Once daily for 5 consecutive days

All treatments to be given by intramuscular injection. Studies have indicated the advisability of giving second and subsequent injections at a different injection site.

Do not administer to animals less than 1.25 kg body weight.

Overdosage / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

Do not use in the animals having known history of hypersensitivity towards Cefquinome or use with caution in pets having known history of hypersensitivity to Beta-lactam antibiotics. Hypersensitivity reactions to cephalosporins are rare.

Pharmaceutical precautions / Instructions: 

Store In Cool, Dry & Dark Place at 2°C to 8°C. Shake the vial well before using. Protect from Direct Sunlight. For Animal Treatment Only. Not Approved for Human Use.

The product does not contain an antimicrobial preservative. Swab the septum before removing each dose. Use a dry sterile needle and syringe. The cap may be safely punctured up to 25 times. Use a draw-off needle when treating groups of animals.

Following withdrawal of the first dose, use the remaining content within 4 weeks.

Special Warnings:

Cephalosporins and penicillins may cause allergic reaction following inhalation, injection, ingestion or skin contact. Cross sensitivity (hypersensitivity) between Cephalosporins to penicillins and vice versa may occur. Allergic reactions sometimes may be serious due to these substances.

    1. Do not handle this product if you know you are sensitized, or if you have been advised not to work with such preparation.
    2. Handle this product with great care to avoid exposure, taking all recommended precautions.
    3. In case of symptoms such as skin rash following exposure, immediately seek medical advice and show the doctor this warning. Swelling of the face, lips eyes or difficulty with breathing, are more serious symptoms and require urgent medical attention.

Withdrawal period:

Meat and milk from treated animals may not be used for human consumption during treatment. Meat and milk may not be taken for human consumption until the following times after the final treatment.

Cattle: Milk- 1 day, Meat – 5 days

Pigs: Meat – 3 days

Shelf life: 48 months

Substitute: Inj. CefquinCare (2.5%), Inj. Cobactan LA (7.5% or 75mg/ml), Pooch Nome Tablets, Cefquinome C4All Injection,

Cobactan has not been indicated for use in dogs, cats and horses by the manufacturer but Cefquinome has been approved for use.
