Description / Action:

Pawsef injection comes with third generation cephalosporin ceftriaxone and betalactamase inhibitor sulbactam. Inhibition of mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall is the reason of bactericidal action of ceftriaxone. In the presence of beta-lactamases like penicillinases & cephalosporinases, it has a high degree of stability.

Ceftriaxone is effective against both Gram -ve & Gram +ive bacteria. Gram positive susceptibility includes certain staphylococcal & streptococcal organisms. Gram negative susceptibility includes Enterobacter spp., Bacteroides spp., Klebsiella spp., E. coli, Pseudomonas aerogenosa, Proteus spp., & serratia spp.

Ceftriaxone is widely distributed across organ systems and is well absorbed following intramuscular injection. In addition, it also crosses the blood placenta barrier and blood-brain barrier.

Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor; an enzyme produced by bacteria that destroys the antibiotics.
