Description / Action: 

MACROZEE 250 mg Tablets contain azithromycinis an antibiotic in a class called macrolides. It is a strong, broad-spectrum antibiotic commonly prescribed for dogs and cats.

Macrozee binds to the “P” site of the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms interrupting RNA-dependent protein synthesis. Susceptible bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus, various Streptococci, and some Haemophilus spp. certain Bacteroides spp, Borrelia burgdorferi, some Mycoplasma spp, and some species of Chlamydia.

Indication / Usage:

MACROZEE is indicated for the treatment of
• Babesia gibsoni infection in Dogs in addition to Atovaquone.
• It is indicated for Acute Cytauxzoonosis and Toxoplasmosis.
• It is indicated for the treatment of infections in the Skin, Respiratory tract, and urogenital systems.
• It is indicated for the treatment of otitis media (inner ear infections), Keratitis and Conjunctivitis, cyclosporine induced Gingival Hyperplasia.
• Macrozee may aid in the treatment of viral papillomatosis in dogs.

Dosage/ Administration:

5-10 mg/kg orally once or twice a day for 1-5 days.

For Babesia gibsoni, it is given along with Atovaquone @ 10 mg/kg b.wt once daily for 10 days.

For Skin infection, the dose is 10 mg/kg once daily for 3-4 weeks.

Directions for Use:

Azithromycin induces vomiting. It is better to administer it separately on empty stomach in the mornings and feed it after one hour.

Overdosage / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

The most common side effects relate to the gastrointestinal tract, such as vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain. Cardiac arrhythmias, including ventricular tachycardia.

Oral antacids reduce the absorption of azithromycin.

Safety/ Pregnancy/ Age:

Avoid in hepatic and renal failure in dogs and cats.

Pharmaceutical precautions / Instructions: 

Azithromycin tablets should be stored in a light-resistant, childproof container at room temperature not higher than 86° F. For Veterinary use only. Not for human use.
