Doxycycline is used in a number of types of infections caused by bacteria and protozoa. It is used for bacterial infections in dogs and cats. Bacterial infections including leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis, mycoplasmosis, psittacosis and tickborne diseases like Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, and rocky mountain spotted fever/tick fever treatment. Respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin, and wound infections can also be effectively treated with doxycycline. Doxycycline can be used to treat heartworm disease by treating Wolbachia organism which infects heart worms. Doxycycline is not effective against viruses and fungus. Feline chlamydophilosis require 3-4 weeks of treatment.

Description / Action: 

Doxypet tablets have doxycycline hydrochloride along with lactic acid bacillus spores.  Doxycycline is an antibiotic of the tetracycline class. It is bacteriostatic in nature and works by inhibiting protein synthesis at the initiation step by interacting with the 30S ribosomal subunit.

Dosage and administration:

10 mg/kg bodyweight once daily or as advised by your veterinarian.

Tablets can be divided and can be given according to body weight for proper doses.

Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

In the case of overdosing stop the medication immediately and contact your veterinarian or take for medical attention or care to your nearby pet clinic or pet hospital.

Nausea, vomiting, drooling, salivation, and diarrhoea are common side effects. Allergic reactions, decreased appetite, and weight loss can also be observed. Oesophagitis is the most commonly observed side effect with the administration of the doxycycline tablets. Doxycycline should always be mixed with water before given to cats and with at least 6 ml of water given via syringe.

Not suitable to use in pets allergic to doxycycline. Should not be combined with calcium supplements or calcium-rich products (diary products), binding agents like bismuth, kaolin, pectin, iron supplements, bactericidal antibiotics, anticoagulants, Phenobarbitals, oral antacids etc.

Consult your veterinarian if your pet is undergoing any treatment or medication for any disease.

Store in a cool and dry place below 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture.

Safety: Age / Pregnancy/ Withdrawal:

Should not be used in pets less than 7 months of age. May cause teeth discoloration.

Do not use in pregnant and breeding bitches, queens/cats especially in the first half of the pregnancy it may affect or alter the skeleton of the developing puppies.

Always follow the recommendations and do not exceed recommended doses. It has no withdrawal side effects. Do not use double dose in case of missed doses.
