Description / Action: 

PetPred Tablets and Oral Syrup contains prednisolone which is a corticosteroid drug with predominant glucocorticoid and low mineralocorticoid activity, making it useful for the treatment of a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.

Pharmacodynamics:

Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid, with lipophilic structure allows binds to its respective glucocorticoid receptor (GCR) located in the cytoplasm. It inhibits the release of signals that promote inflammation such as nuclear factor-Kappa B (NF-kB), Activator protein 1 (AP-1), nuclear factor of activated T- cells (NFAT) and stimulate anti-inflammatory signals such as the interleukin-10 gene.

This makes inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and additional inflammatory mediators. Glucocorticoids also inhibit neutrophil cell death and demargination. As well as phospholipase A2, which in turn lessens arachidonic acid derivative genesis.

Indication / Usage:

PetPred is recommended to treat certain types of allergies, inflammatory conditions, autoimmune disorders, and cancers.

It is also recommended for treating other conditions including Adreno cortical insufficiency, High blood Calcium, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Dermatitis, Eye Inflammation, Asthma and Multiple Sclerosis such as asthma, Uveitis, Pyoderma gangrenosum, urticaria, angioedema, Ulcerative Colitis, Pericarditis, Temporal Arteritis, and Multiple sclerosis, Vasculitis, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Autoimmune Hepatitis, Dermatomyositis, and Post Myocardial Infarction syndrome.

Dosage/ Administration:

In both Dogs and Cats

Anti-inflammatory doses range from 0.2 to 0.6 mg/ kg up to twice daily.

Immunosuppressive doses range from 2 to 6 mg/kg up to three times daily.

Doses for treating other diseases range between 0.2 to 6 mg/kg.

The dosage, as with other corticosteroids, should be individualized according to the severity of the conditions, anticipated duration of therapy and the patient’s threshold or tolerance for steroid excess. For chronic conditions, the lowest recommended as a guideline,

Dogs: 0.5-1.0 mg/kg

Cats: 1-2 mg/kg

Doses should be given as single or divided doses initially and then tapered to every 48 hours.

The duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, the response to the medication, and the development of any adverse effects.

Direction For Use:

Petpred tablets or syrup should be administered after food. always keep sufficient wate for the pets taking Petpred tablets or syrup.

Be certain to complete the prescription unless specifically directed by your veterinarian. Even if your pet feels better, the entire treatment plan should be completed to prevent relapse.

Do not stop this medication abruptly; taper it slowly to avoid complications. Please consult your veterinarian for the use of PetPred.

Overdosage / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

The most common side effects include increased drinking, increased urination, and increase appetite. At higher doses and during long-term use, side effects may also include vomiting, diarrhea, mild behavioral changes, and panting.

It should be avoided to animals with known hypersensitivities or allergies to the drug, Animals with fungal infections and Pregnant Dogs and Cats.
