Presentation: 

The chewable pills come in the following pack sizes for each strength:

Carton with
1 blister of 1, 3 or 6 chewable tablets
or 3 blisters of 6 chewable tablets
or 15 blisters of 1 chewable tablet

Mottled red to reddish brown, circular shaped, or rectangular shaped

Chewable tablets for dogs 2-4 kg contain          Afoxolaner 11.3 mg
Chewable tablets for dogs >4-10 kg contain          Afoxolaner 28.3 mg
Chewable tablets for dogs >10-25 kg contain Afoxolaner 68 mg
Chewable tablets for dogs >25-50 kg contain Afoxolaner 136 mg

Description / Action:

NexGard Tablets contain Afoxolaner; that has insecticide and acaricide properties. It belongs to the isoxazoline family. It is effective against various species of ticks, fleas and mites in dogs. The tick species Dermacentor reticulatus and D. variabilis, Ixodes ricinus, I. hexagonus, and I. scapularis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Amblyomma americanum, and Haemaphysalis longicornis are among those that NexGard is effective against. It is also effective against adult fleas. Ticks and fleas are both killed within 48 hours and 8 hours, respectively. The solution stops fleas from laying eggs and contaminating the home.

• Treatment and prevention of flea (Ctenocephalides felis and C. canis) infestation in dogs for at least 1 month. The item can be used as a component of a therapy plan to manage flea allergic dermatitis (FAD).

• Treatment of tick infestation in dogs (Dermacentor reticulatus, Ixodes ricinus, Ixodes hexagonus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor variabilis, Ixodes scapularis, Amblyomma americanum, Haemaphysalis longicornis, bxodes rholocyclus). One treatment prevents further ticks infestation for one month.

Dosage and administration:

If administered according to the body weight range it ensures a dose of 2.77 mg/kg body weight.

Use an appropriate mix of chewable tablets with different/equal strengths for dogs above 50 kg in body weight. The tablets should not be divided.

Route(S) and Method of Administration:

For oral administration only. NexGard tablets soft and palatable chews to most of the dogs. The pills can be given with food if the dog won’t take them orally.

Treatment schedule:

Treatment of flea and tick infestations:

Depending on the local epidemiological conditions and the flea and/or tick seasons, at monthly intervals throughout the season.

Treatment of demodicosis (caused by Demodex canis):

As demodicosis is a multifactorial illness, it is essential to treat any underlying conditions adequately in addition to administering the medicine on a monthly basis until two negative skin scrapings are obtained one month apart. Severe cases may require prolonged monthly treatments.

Treatment of sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis):

Two administrations at monthly interval are required. On the basis of clinical assessment and skin scrapings further monthly administration of the product may be required.

Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications:

When given 5 times the maximum dose repeated 6 times with breaks of 2-4 weeks, healthy Beagle pups over the age of 8 weeks showed no adverse responses.

Don’t use in case of known hypersensitivity /allergy to any of the excipients or the active ingredient.

Rarely documented side effects include mild neurological symptoms (convulsions, ataxia, and muscular tremors), pruritus, lethargy, anorexia, and mild gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhoea). The majority of adverse responses that were recorded were transient and self-limiting.

Please let your veterinary physician know if you notice any adverse effects, even those not previously included in this package leaflet, or if you believe the medication has not been effective.

Special Warnings:

Special warnings for each target species:

Since parasites must begin feeding on the host in order to be exposed to afoxolaner, there is a chance that parasite-borne illnesses might spread.

Special precautions for use in animals:

In the lack of evidence, the responsible veterinarian ought to decide on the treatment of puppies under 8 weeks old and/or dogs under 2 kg on a benefit-risk analysis. Special measures should be taken by the person giving the veterinary medicinal product to the animals.

Only take one chewable tablet out of the blister at a time to prevent kids from accessing the veterinary medicine. The leftover chewable pills in the blister should be placed back into the carton. After touching the product, wash your hands.

Pharmaceutical precautions / Instructions: 

Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this veterinary medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. This veterinary medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions and can be stored at room temperature.

Special precautions for the disposal of unused product or waste materials, if any Ask your veterinary surgeon how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures should help to protect the environment.

Not to be sold by retail without the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner.

Safety: Age / Pregnancy:

Can be administered to healthy dogs who weigh more than 2 kg and are at least 8 weeks old.

There is no proof of teratogenic effects or any negative impact on male and female animal’s ability to reproduce in laboratory tests using rats and rabbits. The veterinary drug’s safety during pregnancy, nursing, or dog breeding has not been verified. Use only as determined by the competent veterinarian’s benefit-risk analysis.
