Metropet Tablets and Oral suspension contain metronidazole. The exact mechanism of action of metronidazole has not been fully established. However, it is possible that an intermediate in the reduction of metronidazole which is only made by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, binds deoxyribonucleic acid and electron-transport proteins of organisms, blocking nucleic acid synthesis.

Description / Action:
Metropet Tablets and Oral suspension contain metronidazole. The exact mechanism of action of metronidazole has not been fully established. However, it is possible that an intermediate in the reduction of metronidazole which is only made by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, binds deoxyribonucleic acid and electron-transport proteins of organisms, blocking nucleic acid synthesis.
In general metronidazole is used for the treatment of enteric or systemic anaerobic infections including septic conditions.

Indication / Usage:
Metropet is indicated for the treatment of Dogs and Cats for deep infections including Gastrointestinal, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Ear infection and Meningitis.
It is very effective for Clostridium and Fusobacterium spp., infection. It is the best drug for treatment of Giardiasis, Amoebiasis, Balantidium coli and Trichomonas infection. Usually, Metropet should be combined with other antibiotics for best results.
Dosage/ Administration:
For Dogs, the dose is 10-60 mg/kg b.wt once or twice daily or as directed by the Veterinarian.
For Babesia and mixed Haemoprotozoan disease, the dose is 15 mg/kg b.wt for 10 days.
For Cats, the dose is 7.5-10 mg/ kg b.wt twice daily. For Giardiasis, the dose is 25 mg/kg b.wt twice daily for 5- 7 days.
Directions for Use:
Metropet should be given orally along with food. Liquid forms must be shaken well before use. Metronidazole is very bitter, so take care not to crush these tablets as it will be difficult to administer to your pet.

Overdosage / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:
Metronidazole can cause neurological effects including lack of muscle control or coordination, tremors, seizures, vomiting, eye twitching, and weakness.
Its bitter flavour may also cause more drooling than usual. Other common side effects of metronidazole are nausea & vomiting.
Safety/ Pregnancy/ Age:
Not indicated for use during pregnancy in dogs and cats.

Store between 20° to 25°C. Protect from light & moisture. Keep all medicine out of reach of children. Not for human use. For animal treatment only.
