CanTinea Dusting Powder contains Terbinfine hydrochloride 1% which is used to treat fungal infections in dogs and cats.  Terbinafine is an allylamine antifungal agent. It is supposed to act by inhibiting squalene monooxygenase, thus blocking the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes.

CanTinea can be applied to the skin. Terbinafine is used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections such as ringworm, infections of the scalp, athlete’s foot, and jock itch and other fungal infections. This medication is also used in treatment of a skin condition known as pityriasis (tinea versicolor), a fungal infection that causes a lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, forelegs or hind legs.

It eliminates fungus infections by attacking the fungal spores at their source. It causes the cell walls of the spores to weaken which prevents the fungal spores from reproducing and attaching property. The result is that the fungus dies cell by cell and the infection goes away. It is used to treat fingernail or toenail fungal infections. Terbinafine HCL is the newest anti-fungal medication, approved by the FDA in 1992. Terbinafine is available both as an oral medication and as a topical ointment. It is the most common drug prescribed to treat both fungal infections of the nails and Candida infections.
