Description / Action: 

Ataxin tablets contain enrofloxacin with a meaty flavour. Enrofloxacin is an antibiotic of fluoroquinolone group which interacts with bacterial DNA synthesis enzymes and inhibit the essential process. It causes DNA fragmentation and bacterial cell death. The primary route of excretion is urine.

Indication / Uses:

Enrofloxacin tablets are indicated in dogs for

• Treatment of alimentary tract infections
• Treatment of respiratory infections
• Treatment of urogenital tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Secondary wound infections
• Treatment of Otitis externa

Dosage and administration:

Enrofloxacin in dogs and cats
@5 mg/kg body weight

One Ataxin/enrofloxacin 150 mg tablet for 30 kg body weight
One Ataxin/enrofloxacin 50 mg tablet for 10 kg bodyweight

This is strictly for oral administration and should be given once daily for 3 to 10 days period. Tablets can be broken to adjust dose and can be given along with food.

Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

In the case of overdose seek a veterinarian’s advice. An accidental overdose of enrofloxacin may cause vomiting, diarrhoea, and behavioural or nervous signs. Symptomatic treatment should be followed.

Enrofloxacin is contraindicated in animals with a history of known hypersensitivity to quinolones. Due to the overdose of enrofloxacin retinotoxic effects in cats have been reported.

This should not be used for prophylaxis.

Safety: Age / Pregnancy/ Withdrawal:

Enrofloxacin is not recommended for use in cats less than 8 weeks old.

Not recommended for dogs less than one year of age and up to 18 months in large breed dogs. It may affect articular cartilage during the period of rapid growth.

Safety for the use in breeding and pregnant animals has not been determined for the product.

Enrofloxacin is not recommended during lactation (secretes in milk).

Always follow recommendations. It has no reported withdrawal side effects.
