Pharmacodynamics:
Ketopet is a potent inhibitor of ergosterol synthesis which is a main membrane lipid of fungi. It is also particularly successful in treating Cushing Syndrome since it prevents the adrenal glands from synthesizing cortisone.

The duration of treatment for these serious, systemic fungal diseases can be quite long according to the severity of infection, in some cases up to a year in some animals, suppressive treatment can continue for life.
When ketoconazole is used to treat dermatitis due to Malassezia pachydermatitis it is generally used with topical anti-mycotic shampoos.
