Description / Action: 

Kiwof Hart tablets are used in the prevention and treatment of heartworm disease in dogs. It kills and expels heartworms effectively. Heartworm disease in the pet could be contracted with just one bite from an infected mosquito. Heartworm disease or Dirofilariasis caused by Dirofilaria immitis, a parasitic roundworm causes immense damages to heart and lungs which is zoonotic and can be fatal. This heartworm preventive acts on both tissue larval stages as well as prevents development of adult stages of heart worms. Infections of hookworm and ascaris are also controlled by it.

Ivermectin kills parasites early in their development, before they may mature, by paralysing them. Ivermectin kills parasitic worms by attaching to their muscle and nerve cells, paralysing and killing them. Pyrantel Pamoate works by releasing neurotransmitters that paralyze the parasite`s peripheral nervous system, this then kills them and prevents the parasites from spreading further.

Dosage and administration:

Small Dogs (Upto 11kg): 1 Easy Chew of respective bodyweight range
Medium Dogs (12 – 22kg): 1 Easy Chew of respective bodyweight range
Large Dogs (23 – 45kg): 1 Easy Chew of respective bodyweight range

For dogs weighing more than 45 kg use the appropriate combination tablets.

Recommended dose of ivermectin in heartworm disease is: 60mcg per 10kg bw. The maximum allowed dose is 120mcg.

In order to treat and control ascarid and hookworm infections in dogs, and to prevent heart worm disease administer once a month.

Over-dosage / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

When replacing another heartworm preventive product in a heartworm disease preventive program, the first dose of KIWOF HART must be given within a month (30 days) of the last dose of the former medication. The effectiveness of ivermectin can be diminished if there is more than a month (30 days) gap between two doses.

In clinical trials with ivermectin alone, a mild hypersensitivity-type reaction, most notably including a transitory diarrhoea and likely brought on by dead or dying microfilariae, has been noted after treatment of some dogs with circulating microfilariae.

During clinical trials side effects like depression, lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, mydriasis, ataxia, staggering, convulsions and hypersalivation have been reported in dogs.

Pharmaceutical precautions / Instructions: 

Store in a cool and dry place at room temperature or below 25°C. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of the children. Strictly for veterinary use.

Safety: Age / Pregnancy/ Withdrawal:

It is advised to use it on dogs at least 6 weeks old. According to research, some dogs of Collie breed are more sensitive than dogs of other breeds to the effects of ivermectin given at high dose levels (more than 16 times of the target use level).

KIWOF HART has shown a wide margin of safety at the recommended dose level in dogs, including pregnant or breeding female dogs and stud dogs.
