Description / Action:

Bexacat Chewable Tablet contains bexagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor that reduces renal glucose reabsorption and lowers blood glucose concentrations by promoting urinary glucose excretion.
It is the first FDA-approved once-daily oral medication specifically indicated for improving glycemic control in otherwise healthy diabetic cats not previously treated with insulin.

Class: Antidiabetic / SGLT2 Inhibitor

Indication / Uses:

• Improvement of glycemic control in otherwise healthy cats with diabetes mellitus not previously treated with insulin.
• Management of feline diabetes mellitus in selected stable patients.

Dosage and administration:

Cats weighing ≥ 3 kg (6.6 lb): 1 tablet (15 mg) orally once daily
Administer at approximately the same time each day
May be given with or without food
Evaluate hydration, ketone levels, and glycemic control routinely during therapy.

Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

Contraindicated in cats previously treated with insulin or insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
Increased risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (eDKA).
Do not use in cats with pancreatitis, anorexia, dehydration, hepatic disease, or renal impairment.
Common adverse effects include: vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, dehydration, elevated BUN, urinary tract infections, weight loss, and ketosis.
Sudden anorexia, lethargy, dehydration, or weight loss requires immediate discontinuation and DKA evaluation.

Pharmaceutical precautions / Instructions:

Store at controlled room temperature 20°C–25°C (68°F–77°F).
Monitor BHBA levels, serum fructosamine, blood glucose, renal and hepatic parameters periodically.
Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Prescription-only veterinary medicine.

Approved for adult cats only.
Safety not established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats.
Not evaluated in kittens. No withdrawal period applicable.
