Why topical application?
Topical application of oil is an effective means of delivering EFAS to the skin and, eventually, to the rest of the body. Because up to 60% of ALA and 20% of LA of ingested (EFAs) may be oxidized by the liver before reaching peripheral tissues which is a significant portion. Topical application may be a more efficient route of delivery for skin effects, especially during deficiency. The further weekly topical application ensures compliance as compared to oral fatty acid supplementation (Essential fatty acids & skin health Micronutrient Information Center, Linus Pauling Institute. Oregon state university).
