Description / Action:

AuriKO Ear Drop is a combination of Enrofloxacin and silver sulphadiazine. It is indicated as a treatment for canine otitis externa or external ear infections complicated by bacterial and fungal (yeast) organisms susceptible to Enrofloxacin and/or silver sulphadiazine.

Most bacterial infections of the middle and inner ear resolve with an early, aggressive course of broad-spectrum antibiotics. Treatment of canine otitis externa is complicated by bacterial and fungal organisms.

Enrofloxacin:

It is a 4-fluoroquinolone bactericidal with activity against a broad spectrum of both Gram negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Fluoroquinolones interacts with two intracellular enzymes DNA topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase (DNA topoisomerase II), which are essential for bacterial DNA transcription, synthesis and replication. Fluoroquinolones actively bind with bacterial ENZYME complexes and thereby inhibit the essential processes catalyzed by the enzymes (DNA supercoiling and chromosomal decatenation). The ultimate result of the fluoroquinolone intervention is DNA fragmentation and bacterial cell death.

Silver Sulphadiazine:

Is synthesized from silver nitrate and sodium sulphadiazine. It has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and is also an effective antimycotic. Microbial growth is suppressed through modification of the cell membrane and inhibition of DNA replication.
