Taclimus Ointment

Tacrolimus ointment contains Tacrolimus, Amacrolide, Immunosuppressant produced by Streptomyces tsukubaensis. It stimulates the tear glands and prevents further destruction of tissue in KCS. Tacrolimus is also prescribed as topical cream or ointment for the treatment/management of a variety of dermatological conditions such as Superficial Keratitis, Miliary Dermatitis, and Atopic Dermatitis.

Each Taclimus Ointment tube contains

Tacrolimus                            0.1 % w/w
Sterile ointment base           q.s.

Description / Action: 

Tacrolimus ointment contains Tacrolimus, Amacrolide, Immunosuppressant produced by Streptomyces tsukubaensis. It stimulates the tear glands and prevents further destruction of tissue. Keratoconjunctivitis secca is also called dry eye. The disease is most common in canine species. It decreases the production of tears which can eventually lead to blindness in some cases. KCS may be the outcome of an immune mediated condition. Tacrolimus therapy helps to stimulate the tear glands and prevent further tissue destruction. In some animals with KCS resulting from abnormal activity of immune system may need to undergo tacrolimus therapy throughout the life. Tacrolimus is also prescribed as topical cream or ointment for the treatment / management of variety of dermatological conditions such as Superficial Keratitis, Miliary Dermatitis and Atopic Dermatitis.

Indication / Uses:

Taclimus Ointment or tacrolimus ointment is indicated in dogs for

• Management and treatment of infections associated with Canine Atopic Dermatitis.
• Skin eczema, Itching and redness of skin can be managed with tacrolimus ointment.
• Useful in cases of cyclosporine resistance.

Dosage and administration:

Every 12 hours in the affected eye.

Apply a thin layer of ointment on affected body part twice daily.

Can be applied on face, neck and groin areas.

For ophthalmic and dermatological use in pets only. Always consult your veterinarian. Dosage and duration of the treatment depends on the condition being treated and response. Do not self-medicate your pet to avoid complications.

Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:

Overdose has not been reported. Do not allow your pet to lick the affected area after application until it gets dry.

Long term effects, potential side or adverse effects and toxicities are not known. Tacrolimus must be reserved for special cases only.

Ask your veterinarian if your pet is diabetic before using the tacrolimus ointment.

In the case of persistent irritation or adverse reaction, discontinue the use and consult the veterinarian.

Pharmaceutical precautions / Instructions: 

Store in a cool and dry place below 25°C. Do not freeze. Protect from heat and direct sunlight. Do not touch the tip or dispensing tip to any surface or hands because this may contaminate the ointment. Do not use any other outside article to puncture the tube diaphragm. Keep out of reach of the children.

Strictly for veterinary use/animal treatment.

Safety: Age / Pregnancy/ Withdrawal:

Safe for topical application. Age specific restrictions, safety for breeding and lactating animals have not been instructed.

Always follow recommendations. It has no reported withdrawal side effects but the condition may relapse in case of the improper duration of treatment.
