Babesia gibsoni Infection: Tick-borne protozoal infection — liquid form ideal for dogs & cats that cannot swallow tablets.
Small Dogs and Puppies with Babesiosis: Precise liquid dosing especially valuable in very small or juvenile dogs.
Additional documented veterinary uses (literature):
- Used in combination with azithromycin for treatment of Babesia gibsoni infection in dogs.
- Used as part of combination therapy for Cytauxzoon felis infection in cats where clinically indicated.

Dosage and administration:

Administer with food, particularly a fatty meal where possible, to improve atovaquone absorption.
Pharmacology:
Atovaquone selectively inhibits mitochondrial electron transport in susceptible protozoa by blocking the cytochrome bc1 complex, leading to collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibition of nucleic acid and ATP synthesis.
Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications / Warnings:
Generally well tolerated at recommended doses. Mild vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced appetite or lethargy may occur.
Administer with food to maximize oral absorption. Use cautiously in animals with severe hepatic dysfunction. Hypersensitivity to atovaquone is a contraindication.
Combination therapy with azithromycin is recommended for Babesia gibsoni to improve treatment success and reduce relapse.
