Chondroitin Sulphate:          400mg
Manganese Sulphate: 5 mg
Boswellia serrate:        50 mg
Withania somnifera:    50 mg
Vitamin C:         12.5 mg

Description: 

Pet joint tablets are a nutritional supplement for the management of Osteoarthritis in dogs and cats. It contains glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate as a major ingredient.

Glucosamine (CHNO) is an amino sugar which is precursor to form larger molecules called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) which are structural components of the cartilaginous matrix and are involved in the formation and repair of cartilage. These repeating sugar units are also a major constituent of bones, ligaments, tendons and fluid in the joint Because of their low compressibility they are ideal lubricants and are used as shock absorbers by joints.

Chondroitin sulfate is a sulphated glycosaminoglycan (GAG). It is an important structural component of cartilaginous extracellular matrix and provides much of its resistance to compression. It is important in maintaining the structural Integrity of the cartilage. For osteoarthritis loss of chondroitin sulfate from the cartilage is a major cause.

Benefits of Chondroitin Sulfate:
• Improves cartilage quality by stimulating the synthesis of proteoglycans. Hyaluronic acid and collagen II
• Inhibits formation and release of proteolytic enzymes, thus reducing the chances of cartilage damage
• Aids in the management of inflammation

Manganese is an important molecule for formation of hexosamine and hexuronic acid which are precursor for cartilaginous acidic mucopolysaccharides (AMPS) It is a component of the antioxidant enzyme manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD)

Boswellia serrata (Frankincense or Salai guggul) – It is a moderate-to-large branching tree growing to a height of 12 feet found in India, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. Boswellic acid is the active component of Boswellia serrata. The advantage of using Boswellin for the management of arthritis is that, after prolonged period of supplementation, it does not cause any side effects unlike NSAIDs where there can be disruption of Glycosaminoglycans synthesis.

Withania somnifera (winter cherry) is a medium size shrub growing 5 feet tall. It is indigenous to India, and also found in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Withanolides are the active agents extracted from Withania somnifera, useful in the management of arthritis. Withanolides aids in the management of inflammation without any sign of gastrointestinal upsets. which is one of the common side effects of prolonged usage of NSAIDs.

Vitamin C is involved in the synthesis of collagen fibers and connective tissue repair. Collagen fibers (type II) are important structural component of cartilaginous matrix. Vitamin C also acts as natural anti-oxidant and anti-ageing molecule.

Dosage and administration:

Dogs

For correction (initial 4-6 weeks):

Upto 20 kg body weight 1 tab/day
20 kg-40 kg body weight: 2 tab/day
Over 40 kg body weight: 3 tab/day

For maintenance (long term use):

Half of the above recommendation

Cats

For correction (initial 4-6 weeks):

Upto 5 kg body weight: 1/4 tab/day
Over 5 kg body weight: 1/2 tab/day

For maintenance (long term use):

The above recommendation on every alternate days
Or as directed by the veterinarian.
