Description / Action:

DUROMECT (Doramectin) injection is a long-acting broad-spectrum parasiticide for dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, goats and swine. Duromect is a low-volume injection which effectively controls a wide range of roundworms of sheep, goats, cattle, and pigs as well as arthropod parasites of cattle, sheep, and pigs, which impair their health and productivity.

Doramectin is a fermentation-derived product like ivermectin. It is obtained from fermentations of a genetically altered strain of Streptomyces avermitili (avermectin class).

Doramectin modulates chloride ion channel activity in the nervous system of nematodes and arthropods like other avermectins by binding to receptors that increase membrane permeability to chloride ions. Blockage of chloride ion channel inhibits the electrical activity of nerve cells in nematodes and muscle cells in arthropods, and causes flaccid paralysis and death of the parasites. Doramectin has a wide margin of safety in animals when used as recommended because it does not readily penetrate the mammalian CNS.
